Sickness was rife at Aqua claim families

- BY PHIL CARDY

Mum Claire TOURISTS returning from the Aqua Magic Hotel told yesterday how they had been struck down by sickness.

Claire Wheeldon, 37 – one of 100 returning to Manchester – claimed some food was too raw. The mum, from Chapel-en-le-frith, Derbys, said: “I was really ill. My daughter had chicken which was pink inside.”

Janet Rawlingson, 43, from Chelmsford, Essex, suffered stomach trouble. She learned of the deaths on Thursday and added: “It’s just awful. I didn’t sleep on Thursday night, I was checking my kids were breathing all night. They came round and checked all the air conditioning.”

Dale Watson, 38, from Newcastle but originally of South London, returned early with a €6,000 refund.

He said: “Six of us left on August 13 and five of us started being ill on August 15 – sickness, diarrhoea, nausea and headaches. I can’t fault the hotel in other respects. I feel really sorry for the staff.”

Tracey Wooffindin, from Sherburn, North Yorks, praised staff for being attentive and said: “The food was good, I can’t fault it. It’s usual to get a bit of ‘Delhi belly’ in Egypt.”

Thomas Cook reps met tourists as they arrived back. A letter from the company said: “Our primary focus is the health and safety of customers.” Worried Janet
