AID STAR DOES NOT FLAG

-

FLAG OF HONOUR headed a big day for Aidan and Donnacha O’brien with a victory in the featured Comer Group International Irish St Leger Trial at the Curragh yesterday.

O’brien fielded three horses for this Group 3 and Flag Of Honour (right) was allowed an uncontested lead throughout the mile and three quarters.

In the straight the Galileo colt was pressed by Twilight Payment but he kept finding more to remain in front and he hit the line with a neck to spare.

“He’s a horse that would be just as happy getting a lead as he can be lazy in front,” said O’brien. “All the horses we ran here and in the Great Voltigeur during the week are St Leger types and we’ll try and divide them up between here and Doncaster.”

Earlier the Ballydoyle trainer unleashed an exciting two-year-old in Ten Sovereigns who blitzed his rivals in the six furlong maiden.

The No Nay Never colt stormed clear of a big field to win by seven lengths and looks a juvenile with Group 1 potential.

Elsewhere, Indigo Balance ran out a smooth winner of the Listed Curragh Stakes for Jessica Harrington and Colm O’donoghue.
