STEVE EVANS hailed his table-topping Peterborough side after watching them demolish Plymouth to extend their perfect start to the season.
Jason Cummings (below) and Matt Godden each bagged a brace and Siriki Dembele also scored, with Ryan Edwards’ late goal little consolation for Plymouth.
Evans said: “To set a new club record of five opening wins makes me immensely proud, but immensely proud of the players because it’s they who deliver these performances.”
Posh were 2-0 up after 11 minutes with Cummings setting up Godden and Dembele, and there was no way back for the hosts. “We started the game particularly well, we got a couple of goals through brilliant play by our strikers,” Evans said.
“The clinical side of our game told with the five goals we scored, because we would take a 1-0 win down here. We know how tough it is to get three points.”
The result leaves Peterborough clear at the top, but Plymouth are bottom of the league with just two points.
Argyle boss Derek Adams said: “We gave away two early goals and it was always going to be difficult. The way we lost the two goals was poor.
“They didn’t pick us off, we gave the ball away and allowed them to get the two goals. The defenders made bad decisions which have cost us.”
