High-vis man torches cop car at station

- BY ROD MALCOLM

A MAN in a high-vis vest who torched a police car at a station was collared as he hung around afterwards.

Adam Phillips, 19, has admitted carrying out the bizarre arson attack on Tuesday after drinking in a nearby pub in Nottingham.

His solicitor, Chris Saunders, told city magistrates: “It is just an offence of absolute stupidity. If you are going to commit an offence you probably don’t do a number of things.

“One, commit the offence on your doorstep. Two, do it next door to the pub you are in. Three, wear a high-visibility tabard.

“Four, remain at the scene. And you probably don’t do it in the grounds of the local police station.”

Phillips, of Broxtowe, was sent to crown court for sentencing.
