Farewell to oldest Briton Olive, age 113

- BY KARL GRAFTON

BRITAIN’S oldest person has died aged 113.

“Prodigious knitter” Olive Boar was born in 1904 and lived through the reign of five monarchs and 22 prime ministers.

Olive was a mum of two, gran of five and great-gran of 11. She worked as a seamstress and married Claude, a seed analyst, in 1932. They bought a home in Ipswich for £300 where she lived until she was 108.

Son Robin Boar, 73, said: “She was strong-willed. If she felt someone wasn’t showing her respect, she would let them know.

“She did everything by hand and never had a washing machine.”

Olive died in a care home in Felixstowe, Suffolk, yesterday. Grace Jones, 111, of Broadway, Worcs, is now Britain’s oldest resident.
