First day at school photo is safety risk
PARENTS are being told to think twice before sharing ‘first day at school’ pictures on social media.
A survey for cybersecurity firm Mcafee found 53 per cent of parents will share a school uniform picture despite the risks of revealing personal information to strangers.
And it said of the 1.3 billion photos of children parents post each year, a third are on pages which are open to the public.
The warning follows similar advice from child welfare charity NSPCC.
Raj Samani of Mcafee said: “These images can be used to gather information such as school, location, a child’s full name, or even birth dates to paint a picture of who they are.
“If you have any doubts, do not share it.”
