Freed man to run race five years later

Nick Dunn A BRITISH man wrongly jailed in India will finally compete in the Great North Run after deferring his place for five years.

Ex-para Nick Dunn, 32, booked a place in 2013. But he was jailed after he and five other Britons were held on weapons charges while working as guards on a ship to stop pirates.

Last year he did 27 laps of his prison training ground – equal to a 13-mile half marathon – on the day of the Newcastle race.

He was then acquitted and freed last December.

Nick, of Ashington, Northumber­land, said: “Running kept me sane in prison. It was incredibly tough in there.”

In Sunday’s race he will raise cash for The Mission to Seafarers charity, which supported him in jail. Son Heung-min
