IT WAS A RED BETTER DAY
TOMMY O’DONNELL got back on the scoresheet as Munster hammered Cheetahs at Thomond Park in an impressive Pro14 opening day display.
And Joey Carbery got his first taste of action in a Red shirt following his high profile switch from Leinster.
The sun shone and it was perfect start to Johann van Graan’s first full season in charge of Munster, with six tries in front of his home fans.
The South African’s new signings made a big impact and tries from Rory Scannell and Dave Kilcoyne pushed the Reds into a 12-0 half-time lead.
Cheetahs did show the odd glimpse of their good form from last season but Munster were the dominant side throughout.
Carbery got 26 minutes of action after his introduction, while O’donnell scored in his first league game since March 24.
JJ Hanrahan, Dave O’callaghan and Darren Sweetnam also scored second half tries.
