How I coped with.. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
I’ve had OCD for 28 years and suffered with a barrage of intrusive thoughts.
It grew over time to the point where I believed I’d beaten people up when I hadn’t. I was tormented by those thoughts and my anxiety had an impact on every aspect of my life.
In 2009 the recession left me out of work for eight months and I was on the edge of a breakdown.
I tried various treatments including talking therapies, medication and cognitive behavioural therapy. But they didn’t make much impact. Last year my wife came across transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). It uses magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain affected by mental health conditions and is approved by NICE – the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence – for depression.
I had an intensive course at a Smart TMS clinic in July 2017 and my symptoms are almost gone. For the first time in years I feel positive about the future.
