Council and cops probe Hillsbro slur

A COUNCIL officer has been suspended after offensive remarks were posted on social media about the Hillsborou­gh football stadium victims.

Merseyside police are also investigat­ing the tweets about the 1989 disaster in Sheffield which claimed the lives of 96 Liverpool fans.

The posts, allegedly from a worker at Hartlepool borough council, Co. Durham, are said to have included offensive remarks about those who died.

A council spokesman said: “We have been made aware of a number of malicious social media posts.

“One council officer has been suspended.”

Merseyside Police said: “We have been made aware of posts on Twitter and are making enquiries.”
