Woman held after knifing chase horror

- BY JOHN KELLY

A WOMAN was arrested yesterday after she chased a man and knifed him in a busy town centre.

Market traders and early shoppers scattered in alarm as the man was stabbed in the shoulder with a kitchen knife.

Police initially thought the 8.20am incident in Barnsley, South Yorks, might be terror-related but last night the woman was being assessed for mental health issues.

Market trader Abdul Razzaq, 43, was hailed a hero after he confronted the woman, in her thirties, and persuaded her to put the knife down.

Abdul said: “People were really scared. I said to her, ‘Don’t touch anybody’.”

Police said they were “keeping an open mind” about a possible motive.
