KANE TALKS FOR ENGLAND

- BY RICHARD EDWARDS

HARRY KANE’S goalscoring spoke for itself at this summer’s World Cup. But it was his attitude off the pitch that stood out for Switzerland boss Vladimir Petkovic (left) – and illustrated the real strength of this England side.

“I don’t like to single out one player in a team but if you want me to give you one from this England side, I’ll give you one and tell you why,” he said.

“It’s Harry Kane and the reason is his attitude. After scoring three goals against Panama, he was asked to do nine TV interviews afterwards.

“The press officer was wary of asking him to do so many. But Harry said ‘I am proud to play for my country and I’m proud to talk for my country.’

“What can you say? Just a great attitude.”

It was a mindset that summed up the way this young England side approached their World Cup challenge. “He (Kane) isn’t the only one with this attitude,” said Petkovic. “Some people might not see this as important but I think it tells you a lot about this England team and why they are so strong.”
