There’s MOURA to come

SPURS STAR’S BIG TALK

- BY CHRIS HATHERALL

Spurs face Premier League pacesetters Liverpool at Wembley on Saturday, as their new 62,000-seater arena, being built next door to White Hart Lane, is still not ready.

It’s a major setback for Mauricio Pochettino’s men, who also suffered a shock defeat at Watford last weekend to ruin their perfect start to the season.

But winger Moura, who was named Player of the Month for August, is adamant there is enough quality in the squad to still challenge for the title – and enough ambition to aim even higher.

“We know we are a good team,” Moura said. “Winning the first three games of the season proves that we are doing things well, and that we can go far in the Premier League this time.

“It’s still very early, but we are going for everything this year, and we want to give the fans a lot of joy.

“I believe we have a great squad, that we’re very competitive and have the right level to fight for the title.”

Spurs had to overcome a ‘Wembley hoodoo’ last year as they got used to life in their temporary home.

Now there has been a major hold-up after their new ground was deemed still not ready to move into – meaning all the club’s Champions League group stage fixtures must now be played at the national stadium instead.

Chairman Daniel Levy has apologised to fans – and it could now easily be 2019 before Spurs are fully settled into their new home.

But Moura believes when that finally happens, it will move them up another gear.

“Tottenham is one of the great clubs of England, and at a stadium with a bigger capacity, it can get even bigger,” said the 26-year-old, who began his career in Brazil with Sao Paulo. “We are at the most important moment to grow as a club.

“There is a big future here in the Premier League and Champions League, and we can go a long way in Europe, even now. It’s an exciting time.”
