BLISSETT: GRACIA HAS GIVEN HORNETS THEIR BUZZ

- BY DARREN WITCOOP

WATFORD great Luther Blissett is praying Javi Gracia has finally brought to a halt the manager’s revolving door at Vicarage Road.

Under Gracia, Watford have made a sparkling start to the season, kept from the Premier League top spot only by goal difference – not bad for a side among the favourites for relgation less than a month ago.

Gracia, who was named August’s manager of the month on Friday, is Watford’s 10th boss in just over six years.

But ex-hornets favourite Blissett (right) hopes the club’s trigger-happy approach under the ownership of the Pozzo family is now history.

Blissett said: “You want stability and I’m hoping the owners see the manager staying at the club for the foreseeable future.

“Too many changes and short-term fixes just don’t work.

“Javi was in the job last season and he has been given time to implement his ideas.

“He has taken the club forward and the players clearly are buying into his ideas. He has fostered a good team spirit. There’s a real buzz at the club at the moment. “When he replaced Marco Silva I think a lot of people wondered how long he would remain in charge for. “That affects players, fans and the manager himself. Uncertainty doesn’t help anyone – but he’s won everyone over. If he’s offered a contract to stay then 99.9 per cent of the fans would be happy with that. Being rewarded is what he maybe now deserves.”

Watford’s form tailed off dramatically at the end of last season as they survived by the skin of their teeth.

The Hornets had gone a staggering 13-plus hours, stretching back to January, without scoring an away goal until this term at Burnley. And fans rightly feared the worst after their former manager Silva swooped to take star man Richarlison to Everton, with Watford failing to sign a replacement.

But the surprise packages of the Premier League have won four out of four and their title odds have now been slashed from 2,000-1 to 200-1.

It’s way too early to start
