BACK AND HAS TO STAY

-

LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp reckons Steven Gerrard is already whittling away at the Old Firm gap.

Klopp was in Glasgow yesterday to support A Match for Cancer, a fund-raising event being driven by Liverpool star James Milner and former Celtic star Stan Petrov.

The Hoops won the first Old Firm clash of the season 1-0 last Sunday, but Klopp said: “Steven’s made a brilliant start. Rangers are already getting closer to Celtic.” dreaming of any Leicester-style title-winning fairytale but Blissett said: “The players have hit the ground running and you have to enjoy times like these.

“With the way the club finished last season, shipping goals and not scoring, everyone thought it would be a long season.

“There was a bit of doom and gloom, so this start has taken everyone by surprise. But that’s what it is, it’s only a start. It’s just as easy to lose four games on the spin.”

The barnstorming start has evoked memories of 1983 when Watford finished second in the top flight under the late Graham Taylor.

Former England front-man Blissett, Watford’s record goalscorer, was a key cog in that Taylor side that defied the odds. The 60-year-old, who later played 30 games for AC Milan before rejoining Watford, added: “I’d love the club to finish in the top half as that would be progress.

“But survival for a club like Watford remains the priority.

“You can dream but realistically most Watford supporters would accept 17th place now if offered it.”
