Mccall’s near miss

-

Scunthorpe 3 Rochdale 3

STUART MCCALL admitted he needs to quickly improve Scunthorpe’s defensive frailties. The new Iron manager saw Lee Novak, Ryan Colclough and Charlie Goode put his team 3-1 up only for Oliver Rathbone’s second goal and one from Matty Gillam (below) to earn Rochdale a draw.

“We’ve talked about needing to score more goals, but likewise we’ve got to start shutting the back door,” Mccall said.

“This team has lost by five against Fleetwood and drew with Barnsley having been 2-0 up.

“When we went 3-1 up, you could sense there was an edginess.

“A lot of football is about decisionmaking and today we made a lot of wrong decisions.”

Dale manager Keith Hill was critical of his side, despite their fightback.

“I’m disappointed we were 2-0 down to two gifts. Then when we got ourselves back into the game, we gave away another,” Hill said. “It was down to a total lack of responsibility from individuals.

“We had to bring Zac Clough off because he’d had a yellow card and was fortunate to stay on the pitch.”
