14 killed af­ter huge ty­phoon in Philip­pines

AT least 14 peo­ple were killed in a mas­sive storm which has dev­as­tated the north­ern Philip­pines, a pres­i­den­tial ad­viser has said.

Ty­phoon Mangkhut tore through the main is­land of Lu­zon, and was yes­ter­day travelling west to­wards China.

Al­most all build­ings in the city of Tugue­garao sus­tained some dam­age and com­mu­ni­ca­tions were down in places, a govern­ment of­fi­cial said.

Winds of 185kmh were recorded dur­ing the storm.

De­laila Pa­sion, who had fled her home, said: “We are re­ally fright­ened. They say it is so strong, we were too scared to re­main.”

Four mil­lion peo­ple were in its path and thou­sands were evac­u­ated over 6m storm surges.
