Irish Sunday Mirror - - NEWS - BY STEPHEN HAYWARD

Dairy herds COWS prefer being milked by robots to humans.

They produce 20 per cent more with automated milking systems, according to new research.

Court Farm in Gloucestershire is part of a growing trend towards robotic systems.

Owner Calvin Pugh said: “My wife and I were spending five-and-a-half hours a day milking cows.

“They need milking more than twice a day and were having health issues because of this.

“Now the cows have increased their yield by around 20 per cent. A lot of the health issues went away when we switched to robotic milking too.”

By 2025 half of dairy herds in Europe will be milked robotically, say new estimates.
