Firmino horror eye-jab injury

-

long time to know that no one is perfect. Not even Manchester City last season.

“There will be problems ahead and we must see how we deal with that.

“I am happy with my squad.

“Five wins from five games, fantastic. But now we have to do it again and again.”

Liverpool also left Wembley sweating on the fitness of Firmino after the striker was taken off after being poked in the eye by Jan Vertonghen.

It appeared Firmino’s face had been scratched, but replays showed the defender’s finger lodged in the forward’s eye socket.

The injury forced Firmino, who scored the second goal for the Reds, to be taken to London’s Moorfields Eye Hospital, accompanied by Liverpool doctor Andy Massey.

Liverpool said in a club statement that Firmino “will be assessed” and the Brazilan is now a doubt for Tuesday’s Champions League blockbuster with Paris Saint-germain.

Klopp admitted: “I’m not sure, but there may be an injury with Roberto, we don’t know exactly in the moment. I only saw the situation from around 60 yards.

“For sure, at the moment it’s not comfortable for him. We will see.”

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino (below) saw his north London side lose their second successive game, and admitted Liverpool deserved their victory.

But the Argentine manager felt his team were also denied an injury-time penalty just moments after substitute Erik Lamela had brought Spurs back into the game when Son Heung-min was taken down by Sadio Mane’s challenge. Pochettino said: “At the end, it was a clear penalty on Son by Mane and we would have had the chance to make it 2-2.

“But we need to improve a lot – as I also said after the four first games – if we want to be contenders [for the Premier League title].”

Firmino later tweeted: “It was just a scare – my eye is OK and so am I.”

Liverpool reported on their website: “A hospital examination confirmed an abrasion of the eye, but there will be no lasting damage.”
