Commission set up after Tuam

THE Mother and Baby Homes Commission of Investigation (MBHCOI) was established in 2015 by the Government.

The move came in the wake of claims that the bodies of up to 800 babies and children may have been buried in an unmarked mass grave in Tuam.

Its remit also covers probes into the records of and practices at a further 13 Mother and Baby Homes.

The three-person commission is chaired by Judge Yvonne Murphy, with Dr William Duncan and Professor Mary E Daly.

Final report was due by February 2018 but it has been granted a one-year extension.
