- BY EMMA MCMENAMY

TAKE Back The City protesters brought chaos to Dublin yesterday as they blocked off part of O’connell Bridge in an attempt to “shut down the city”.

People sat down on the landmark crossing from 1pm causing huge traffic snarl-ups for shoppers. Hundreds joined in the protest which the group planned to make their biggest one yet.

The protest was part of a nationwide day of action with protests over the country to highlight homelessness and lack of housing. Rallies were also held in Cork, Sligo, Galway, Kildare, Limerick, Belfast, Derry, Drogheda, Maynooth, Bray and Wexford.

Take Back The City posted on Twitter yesterday: “We have every corner of O’connell Street blocked off. Take Back the City by name, Take Back the City by nature.”
