Robertson rightly Kops the plaudits
WHAT a difference a year has made to the flourishing career of Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson.
Following his bargain £8million move from Hull, the Glaswegian struggled to make an immediate impact on the Liverpool first team.
He actually made more appearances for Scotland than he did for the Reds in his first four months at Anfield.
Boss Jurgen Klopp told him he must improve if he wanted to dislodge Alberto Moreno.
Advice that model professional Robertson instantly heeded.
Once he broke into the senior side last December his outstanding displays signalled there was no shifting him.
His rise to stardom in 2018 has been meteoric: playing in a Champions League final and captaining his country were highlights.
But, for my money, one of his best performances so far came in the thrilling 3-2 win over PSG.
The stellar cast on show included Neymar, Mbappe and Salah, but it was Robertson who most impressed, both in defence and attack.
Mbappe scored, but for most of the game the £166m French ace was in Robertson’s back pocket.
And the tireless Scot was always a threat with his runs and precision crosses.
The cross for Daniel Sturridge’s headed goal was an absolute peach.
After years of searching for a reliable, quality left-back in the mould of an Alan Kennedy, John Arne Riise or Steve Nicol, Liverpool have finally struck gold with Robertson.
