Ray’s on a double

-

REGULAR readers of Box to Box will be keen to see whether Part II of Ray Winstone’s daring double comes off today.

Last week, the screen hardman audaciously punted the idea that the out-of-form Hammers would take apart Everton. They did. The second part of Ray’s bet is to see the Irons ‘bury’ Chelsea – something that several of the rival fans, on occasion, have not be averse to seeing... literally.

Blues boss Maurizio Sarri has the unenviable task of taking his team to the athletics stadium in east London, followed by a trip to Anfield on Wednesday – then a return

game with the Scousers at the Bridge on Saturday evening. I suspect a touch of rotation going on, with weary Eden Hazard requesting his Ovaltine and an early bedtime on the night of the Anfield match in the Carabao Cup.

It happens every season that two teams meet in a cup competition, then face each other about three days later in the league – with none of them recognising their opponents from the previous match due to rotary club policy.

For West Ham, it’s another toughie next Saturday lunchtime when cheeky chappy Jose tips up at the athletics arena.

That’s after he’s allowed the ramifications of playing Frank Lampard’s Derby in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday to sink in.
