Lyrics to Elton hit up for sale

- BY KAREN ROCKETT karen.rockett@trinitymirror.com

ROCKET Man could soon be Your Song as the handwritten lyrics to Sir Elton John’s classic go under the hammer.

The words to the iconic 1972 hit also feature a series of spacethemed doodles and are signed by the star’s co-writer, Bernie Taupin.

Bernie’s sale at Julien’s Auctions in California in November also features lyrics for Candle in the Wind and Bennie and The Jets.

Elton, 71, and Bernie, 68, met in 1967 after responding to an ad seeking songwriters, deciding to team up after neither of them got the gig. Rocket Man was on Elton’s Honky Château album and hit No 2 in the UK and No 6 in the US.

Elton and Bernie’s early years will be shown in film Rocketman, out next year.

Elton sang in Ottawa, Canada, on Friday on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
