MMA event halted over safety fears
A MIXED Martial Arts event which was due to take place last night was cancelled – because of safety fears.
The fights at the Claremont Stadium in Navan, Co Meath, were pulled after Sport Minister Shane Ross released a statement highlighting his concerns.
He said on Twiter yesterday: “Pleased today’s MMA event was called off in the absence of adequate guarantees of appropriate safety precautions.
“The tragic death of Joao Carvalho must never be repeated.”
However, the organisers of Battle Arena said all fighters had been subject to medical checks prior to the event and doctors and paramedics would be in attendance.
