On top of the spots to save sickly trees

-

My acer tree has coral spot. What can I do about it? W Saville, Manchester DAVID: Coral spot is a fungal disease caused by spores spreading from dead branches to wood. Clear dead branches then prune infected ones by cutting through the swelling at the base of the branch – this area heals faster. If die-back continues, repeat pruning and remove dead wood. It often infects unhealthy trees, so look out for any other issues.
