Last night, the Liverpool boss would have been tempted to tear out his hair transplant after Chelsea’s No.10 threatened to wreck his side’s perfect start to the Premier League season.

Hazard’s flick found Mateo Kovacic in the centre-circle and the Croatian instantly swapped passes with Jorginho before spearing a pass through the heart of Liverpool’s defence.

There was still plenty for Hazard to do. He was drifting slightly to his left and Joe Gomez was closing in from the other side at full pelt.

But the Belgian looked up to assess Allison Becker’s position without losing any speed before unleashing a shot that carried so much power and precision that Liverpool’s £67million keeper didn’t get anywhere near it. It was a strike that would have made Messi and Ronaldo – not to mention Puskas Award-winning Salah – proud.

Liverpool had dominated the first 24 minutes – and they continued to carry the greater threat after Hazard’s flash of brilliance.

But as every minute passed, so the doubts about Liverpool’s ability to pick up points when they travel to face the best of the rest.

Last season, Klopp’s men lost at the Etihad, Old Trafford and Wembley. They could only draw at Stamford Bridge and the Emirates.

The victory at Tottenham earlier this month hinted that a cure had finally been found for the kind of travel sickness that ruins title dreams.
