Relief as gun cop guilty of teen murder

- BY KAREN ROCKETT

A WHITE police officer who shot a black teenager 16 times has been found guilty of murder.

Chicago cop Jason Van Dyke killed 17-year-old Laquan Mcdonald in 2014.

There was relief from civil rights groups who feared there would be riots if he walked free.

Rashad Robinson, from campaign group Color of Change, said: “Being able to send a message that law enforcement are not above the law is important.”

Van Dyke, 40, was found guilty of second degree murder and 16 counts of battery with a firearm. He faces up to 15 years in jail.

Laquan had been armed with a knife but was walking away from police.

Three officers face trial over allegedly conspiring to cover up the murder.
