Water appeal as fire crews battle blaze

- BY ARTHUR VELKER

FIRE crews appealed for help with water after a blaze swept through a wood yesterday.

Emergency services were called to the scene of a JML plant in Convoy, East Donegal, at around 3pm after a thick column of smoke was seen from miles away.

Eight appliances were present at the scene but services struggled to control the blaze due to a shortage of water in the area.

Fire crews battled the blaze as it raged for hours and appealed for people with tankers to help.

Roads were cordoned off and locals were advised to keep their doors and windows closed to prevent the inhalation of smoke.
