Roisin Shortall A RALLY demanding improvement to health services was attended by around 300 people yesterday.

The Still Waiting Health Campaign is calling for €1billion in additional funds for the sector and an increase in capacity in community and primary healthcare settings.

Activists gathered at the Garden of Remembrance in Parnell Square in central Dublin and marched to the Customs House.

Addressing the crowd Social Democrats’ Roisin Shortall said: “People are fed up waiting for health services. It’s an intolerable situation and too many people are suffering.

“We need Government to commit to funding Slaintecare.

“The Government need to show their support for Slaintecare in Tuesday’s Budget.”

Campaigners say they want to see an end to a “two-tier health system, whereby health treatment varies depending on where you live and “the size of your income.”

The group is also calling for the establishment of a National Health Service through the implementation of Slaintecare, the Government’s plan to overhaul the system.

The campaign describes the scheme as “creaking and dysfunctional”.
