Donal’s cookery show returns to RTE this week

The RTE star and his Swedish wife Sofie became parents for the first time last December when they welcomed little Noah to their adopted home of California.

He said the pair have already given up their freedom so they might as well have another one.

The 32-year-old Dubliner told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “We’d love to have a big family, it’s something we’ve dreamed about.

“I think having had Noah and experienced it, it’s not as unknown as it was before.

“We’ve already given up the freedom of a non-parent. I think both of us would love to have more kids but I don’t know when.

“Life is just mad at the moment, it used to be normal mad but now it’s completely bonkers because Noah takes up all the time when I have time off. But he’s great fun.”

Now based in the US, the star returns to RTE on Wednesday for a new series of Meals In Minutes, which was filmed in Ireland.

He said: “Since we moved to LA we’ve been back and forth home and it’s lovely to come back and do the series here. We have our own production company that makes the show so it’s great.”

HOLLYWOOD

Donal has settled right into Hollywood and has already made friends with celebrities including Queer Eye’s star Karamo and Sister Sister’s Tia Mowry.

Karamo even created a meme out of Noah which went viral.

Donal said: “I met Karamo at Tia’s party. I worked with her on the Food Network. He gave me the full Queer Eye experience when I met him. He’s so sweet. He’s obsessed with Noah.”

But Donal said he is “protective” of what pictures they put up of his young son online.

He added:“my career is based on social media and I got my start from food blogging.

“That being said we’re protective and mindful of what we post. As a parent you have a responsibility to not embarrass your child more than you already do.

“There’s nothing there that he’s going to look at in years and be embarrassed about.” Despite rubbing shoulders with stars, down-to-earth Donal – who recently launched a new book Donal’s Meals In Minutes – said his family have a fairly “normal life”.

He added: “It’s a lovely lifestyle – the climate more than anything but from a food perspective you just have access to the most incredible food. “We’ve a Youtube Channel that has grown to 800,000 subscribers so that was a big pull to move out there and we spend a lot of time with creators.

“But when it comes down to it you’re living a normal life. You get up, feed the baby, bring the dog for a walk, the usual stuff.” Donal and Sofie
