Families pay for being too blooming idle

- BY KAREN ROCKETT

LAZY families fork out at least €100 every summer replacing items they couldn’t be bothered to pack away for winter.

A survey shows 42 per cent can’t be bothered to put away things like barbecues in the autumn – and have to replace them the following summer.

Also, only 27 per cent do the right amount of mulching, pruning and planting to prepare their gardens for next spring.

The poll by garden storage company Keter found that by this weekend most of us no longer care about our gardens.

One in 10 will today tuck into his or her first roast dinner in months instead.

Research shows we spend almost €200 on garden furniture, tools and plants each year.
