'Early death' risk of daily wine drinks
A new study suggests the benefits of a glass of red wine may have been exaggerated – if you have the tipple more than four times a week.
US researchers found even light amounts of wine every day increased risk of early death by 20 per cent on average.
Past studies had shown antioxidants in red wine can cut the risk of blood clots and stress.
But a Washington School of Medicine team said: “One or two drinks about four days per week seemed to protect against cardiovascular disease, but drinking every day eliminated those benefits. With cancer risk, any drinking was detrimental.”
