Glenn says: Call me up, Southgate
BRIGHTON striker Glenn Murray says he’d be up for an England call from Gareth Southgate – even at the age of 35.
Murray scored his fifth goal of the season on Friday to beat West Ham 1-0 and go into the weekend as the top-scoring English striker in the Premier League.
In fact, only Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, with six goals, was above him in the goal charts.
So, at an age when many other players are retiring from international duty, Murray wouldn’t hesitate in saying ‘yes’ to his country.
He said: “I watched Gareth’s team in the summer and I supported them 100 per cent and I enjoyed the tournament – he’s doing a great job.
“If he was to pick me, then I’d be delighted. If he doesn’t, then he’s still doing a great job.
“My job is to score goals for Brighton and enjoy my football – and that’s exactly what I’m dong.
“Whatever comes off the back of that, so be it.
“I just need to keep my cool in the moment when the chance arises.
“I’m feeling confident in my ability to score goals right now.”
