WEARY BHOYS NEED MORGAN SPICE

- BY SCOTT MCDERMOTT

CELTIC have a problem and Lewis Morgan believes he can be part of the solution.

The Parkhead side have struggled to create and score goals in the Premiership this season – averaging just one per game.

They haven’t fared much better in Europe either, culminating in their 3-1 defeat to Red Bull Salzburg on Thursday night.

Brendan Rodgers needs a spark in attack – and young winger Morgan (left) feels he can provide it.

The Scotland Under-21 ace is now fully fit and ready to go after injury curtailed his start to life at the Hoops. As Rodgers’ men recover from the loss in Austria and prepare for today’s trip to face St Johnstone in Perth, Morgan has begged for a chance to shine.

He was the best player in the Championship with St Mirren last term and made his full Scotland debut against Peru in the summer.

Certainly, the 21-year-old would add something different to Celtic’s frontline and he’s desperate to show his manager what he’s capable of.

Morgan said: “I’m champing at the bit now. When you have an extended period out it gives you that bit between your teeth. I’ve been fit for a few weeks now. It has been good to be back and now I want to push for some minutes. I’ve just got to make sure that when I get my chance I take it and force my way in. “As a sub, it’s hard to come off the bench and make an impact. But you’re just so desperate to do well.

“Hopefully I can do something that triggers me getting into the team – and then I can kick on from there. I’m trying to show why I should be playing. I feel I deserve a chance but there’s probably about 30 boys in our squad who think the same.

“It’s good to know that we’ve got so many good players desperate to play games and I’m sure my time will come. The goals haven’t been flowing for us this season so there might be a chance for me.

“It’s probably due to the success we’ve had in the last two years at Celtic. Teams are playing a different style against us, it’s understandable.

“But we’re working on solutions to break them down and the results are starting to come. Goals are a big part of my game and something I hope to contribute to the team.

“I want to be part of that solution. I have belief that I can help us in certain aspects when called on. It’s up to me to show it.”
