Villa wait for Henry over job

-

THIERRY HENRY will be Aston Villa’s next boss – if he wants the job.

The former Arsenal and France superstar is considering an offer to become Steve Bruce’s successor.

It will be the 41-year-old’s first role in sole charge, and his appointment would represent a bold and exciting gamble by new Villa owners Nassef Sawaris and Wes Edens.

The pair are anxious to make a statement, and it appears that the Belgium No.2 is the choice of Egyptian Sawaris, rather than super-agent Jorge Mendes who has been advising the club since last summer’s takeover.

London-based Sawaris is known to have previously supported Arsenal and is a big admirer of Henry, the Gunners’ all-time top scorer.

However, the deal is by no means cut and dried as Henry wants full control over the transfer budget.

That appears to be the sticking point as Villa Chief Executive Christian Purslow wants to appoint a new sporting director.
