THE world’s most expensive bottle of whisky – the Macallan Valerio Adami 1926 – sold this week at auction for £848,000.

The whisky was in a vat for 60 years, from 1926, and then bottled before being sold at Bonhams for what is a truly absurd amount – affordable only to those with the richesse of Premier League stars.

We can but hope the fare offered today in TV football terms is the equivalent of the warming, rare sip the new owner will enjoy when he dares to open that Macallan (right).
