BLOOD ’N THUNDER
WAGNER RAGE AT HERO’S INJURY
HUDDERSFIELD boss David Wagner was left fuming as Christopher Schindler spilled blood for the cause.
The Terriers are still seeking their first Premier League win of the season after bravely sharing the points with Burnley courtesy of Schindler’s first-ever top-flight goal.
He then fought on courageously after a hefty blow to the head from Sam Vokes’ flailing elbow.
Schindler was treated for six minutes and Wagner had to get his anxiety off his chest despite his team moving away from bottom spot.
The German said: “He got hit with the elbow and it’s nothing I like to see. This is quite dangerous. We don’t like to see ugly elbow challenges.
“Opponents have to have better control over their bodies. But in the end Schindler deserved his first Premier League goal.
“This was a very good, strong performance. We looked brave, confident, controlled and dominated.
“I’m more than confident because our performances in the last weeks are good. We have everything apart from this first win.”
Burnley boss Sean Dyche had a sore point to get off his chest, too.
He was furious, in fact, with what he described as a dive when Laurent Depoitre went down easily in the box in a tussle with James Tarkowski. Dyche said: “That was cheating. And that was embarrassing. Absolutely so.
“We’re talking blatant dives today. A useful sanction? Ban them. Today was absolutely ridiculous.
“I can’t believe what I was seeing. Why not send him off on the spot?
“Apart from that we should have been out of sight in the first half. But the second half, credit to Huddersfield. They didn’t relent and we lost our way.”
You had to have immense sympathy for Huddersfield, especially in the first 45 minutes when they found themselves a goal down but had done little wrong. Vokes’ 20th-minute header from Johann Berg Gudmundsson’s cross broke the deadlock, despite efforts from Aaron Mooy and Jonathan Hogg, while the second half mirrored the first with Mooy heading over the top before he was denied by Joe Hart.
But just when Wagner began to despair, Huddersfield drew level in the 66th minute.
