Preston in a blockbuster

-

have got worse for them just before the break when Cedric Kipre tangled with Man City loanee Lukas Nmecha in the box, but referee Lee Probert was unmoved by the appeals for a penalty from the Preston players and coaching staff.

Neil’s side continued to pile on the pressure after the break and Robinson added a second minutes after Alan Browne’s powerful drive crashed off the underside of the bar.

Daniel Taylor shaped to shoot from 12 yards to draw in the Wigan defenders before cleverly feeding the ball left to Robinson to calmly sidefoot the ball into the net.

Things got worse for Paul Cook’s side when Darron Gibson was given his marching orders by Probert for a foul on Daniel Johnson ten minutes into the second half and Cook himself was booked minutes later.

Second-half substitute Gallagher added a third from the spot before a Dan Burn own goal at the death completed the rout.

“The best team won the game,” admitted Cook. “I have no complaints about that. Preston fully deserved the win.

“They had more appetite and created more chances than us and we just flirted with what we were trying to do.

“When you’re not great at both ends of the pitch then this is what happens. Hopefully we will conduct ourselves well and have some manners and hopefully our good days are not far away.”
