Men released after pistols sent in post from the US

Glock pistol THREE men arrested after gardai and US forces seized firearms being sent in the post have been released without charge.

Three glock pistols along with other firearms were destined for delivery to locations in the capital as well as parts of Co Dublin.

Cocaine and cannabis was seized in a follow-up search after the National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau along with the Special Crime Task Force raided three addresses in Stepaside, Carrickmin­es and Newcastle.

Three people aged 26, 27 and 38 were arrested on Friday but were released without charge yesterday morning with a file being prepared for the DPP.

Gardai released a statement saying they are working closely with US Homeland Security as they investigat­e.

They said: “A number of firearms, namely three Glock handguns, have been intercepte­d and seized in postal packages destined for Ireland from the United States.

“The Special Crime Operations branch of An Garda Siochana have conducted a joint operation with US Homeland Security Investigat­ions following the detection of automatic weapons due to be delivered to locations in Dublin city and county.”
