Concern over 7,500 kids on dentistry list

- BY CORMAC BYRNE

A TD has blasted new figures which show more than 7,500 children have been waiting at least two years for an orthodontic appointment.

Statistics released to Wicklow representative Stephen Donnelly show 18,135 kids under the age of 14 are waiting for a consultation.

He said: “More than 40% of children on the orthodontic list have been waiting for more than two years. In fact, 1,230 have been waiting for over four years.

“It’s not good enough a 14-year-old could be 18 before receiving, what in many cases is deemed “urgent”, treatment.

“Bear in mind there is another waiting list for assessment before they are approved for treatment.”
