23ft cliff fall woman flown to hospital

A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital yesterday morning after she was found with serious injuries at the base of a 23ft cliff.

The alarm was raised at 2.30am when the lady in her early 20s was reported to have fallen on to the shore at Spanish Point in Co Clare.

A complex major multiagenc­y operation, that lasted three hours, was quickly mounted.

The Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard along with the Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter were initially tasked to the incident.

Crews climbed down to the base of the cliff to reach the woman.

It’s believed she suffered multiple injuries including fractures and a head trauma.
