Undertakers quiz after 11 babies found

MYSTERY last night surrounded the discovery of 11 babies’ bodies at a rundown ex-funeral home.

The tiny remains were concealed behind a false ceiling at the building, where officials had previously found “deplorable” conditions including bodies kept in a garage.

The babies, nine in a box and two in a coffin, were found after an anonymous tip-off about the home, which had shut amid accusations of breaking financial and licensing rules.

Police in the US city of Detroit are trying to trace the home’s former owner. Lieutenant Brian Bowser said: “We have to find out what happened and why.”
