Jordan blames United flops for Jose woes... MAN UP, UNITED

- BY JOHN WRAGG

OLD TRAFFORD CRISIS

Jose Mourinho’s job is in the balance after a terrible start to the season, but Jordan says the responsibility is with the players.

“This is Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world,” said Jordan, who played more than 100 games for United in three years.

“I’m not going to get involved in telling Jose Mourinho what he should do. He’s won his European Cups, I wouldn’t do that.

“But I will say it’s not Manchester United to keep chopping and changing managers.

“He’s upset people, but players have to take responsibility here.”

Mourinho survived a crisis to beat Newcastle 3-2 at Old Trafford – after being 2-0 down at half-time.

That was United’s first victory in five games in all competitions.

Now, Mourinho is back on the precipice on Saturday when United go to Chelsea, the club where he won three Premier League titles.

Jordan (above) – nicknamed Jaws – added: “I just think you’ve got to stick with the manager.

“Man United under Sir Alex Ferguson had an incredible era. His management was phenomenal. This guy, Mourinho, has got an incredible record as well and you can’t keep changing the manager.

“It’s the standards of Man United of the past, you are judged on that.

“There’s a responsibility on the players because you are talking about Manchester United, it’s enormous.

“Even in my day, places that had Manchester United supporters’ clubs were unbelievable.

“Last weekend, players had to stand up and be counted and some of them did. They lifted it and it felt a wee bit like a Man United performance.

“Mourinho gave them a blast at half-time.

“But you can only do that so many times. Get your eye on the ball, you need to lift it, the intensity of the game, your attitude, all of that.

“The top teams at the moment – Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea – they all have it. That is the barometer, that is where you start.

“Mourinho makes the demands and the players have got to do it.

“I’m not saying you can’t play unless you are Messi. But if you make a mistake, correct it.

“I hope that Mourinho gets a break after the Newcastle win.

“He’s the Manchester United manager – get behind him.”
