SKIPPER’S DENIAL OF BURNOUT
ENGLAND skipper Harry Kane has slammed his critics, and insisted: “I’m not burnt out.”
The Tottenham striker drew another Three Lions blank in Croatia on Friday night.
It was Kane’s sixth England game without a goal – and it has put him under the spotlight with claims that he’s jaded after leading his country to fourth place in the World Cup in Russia. But the 25-year-old marksman, who headed against the bar in the second half, is convinced that he is in good shape.
Spurs star Kane said: “It’s been tough after the World Cup, not getting much rest, but I have dealt with it well. I have stayed fit and stayed healthy. That’s my main priority at the start of the season. Now it’s a case of building on that and pushing forward over the winter period.”
Gareth Southgate’s stars battled to a 0-0 Nations League draw in Rijeka, but it means they need to get a positive result in Spain to have a chance of topping the group.
Marcus Rashford scuppered England’s best chance to win the game as Southgate’s men struggled to break down the World Cup runners-up.
Kane added: “It was obviously a tough evening and a weird game to be involved in, with no fans, but I think we coped with it pretty well.
“A bit more clinical and it would have been perfect, but we move on to the game in Spain.”
