Docs help Jay keep her Fizz

Singer praised NHS surgeons Jay, 57, told how docs used flesh from her thigh to reconstruc­t her tongue after she was diagnosed with mouth cancer. “They did a slightly different operation because of my skirtrippi­ng job,” she said. “I’ve had a graft on my leg slightly higher so it’s not so visible for my work, which has made a difference.”

But following the July operation she has been given the all-clear and is joining two of her Bucks Fizz pals – Cheryl Baker, 64, and Mike Nolan, 63 – in new band The Fizz. She added: “Everyone still always asks for the skirt-ripping. We’ll be doing it in our Zimmer frames!”

Speaking about her treatment at Guy’s Hospital in London, Jay said: “My two surgeons were amazing. I will be eternally grateful to them.

“The NHS are under-funded and they’re battling against it and I did witness that.

“But you’ve got these incredible people who just want to save lives.”
