Edmund sets up Euro Open final

KYLE EDMUND will face Gael Monfils in the European Open final after the 23-year-old saw off Frenchman Richard Gasquet in straight sets.

The British No.1, the top seed at the tournament in Antwerp, beat Gasquet 6-3 6-4 to set up the final against Monfils.

Sixth seed Monfils beat Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman, the second seed, 6-3 6-4. ANDREA DOVIZIOSO piled the pressure on championship leader Marc Marquez by taking pole position for today’s Japanese Grand Prix.

Honda’s Marquez will win his fifth Motogp title with victory at Motegi but qualified sixth.

Ducati’s Dovizioso, 77 points behind Marquez in the title race, set a time of 1min 44.590secs with Marquez 0.299 slower.
