Mourinho touchline bust-up
manager launched an investigation as soon as he reached the dressing room.
Ianni was ordered to give Mourinho a personal apology and may face further club sanction.
Sarri said: “I spoke with Jose afterwards and realised we were wrong. I spoke with my staff and then agreed to speak to Mourinho and say sorry.
“Now, I think it’s finished. We made a mistake. We were in the wrong on the situation.
“I want to speak to him again and make sure he understands it was a big mistake.
“Now the situation is between me and my staff, face-to-face.”
Chelsea deserved the first-half lead given to them through Antonio Rudiger’s 21st-minute header.
But United came storming back after the break and Anthony Martial equalised in the 55th minute before putting the Reds ahead brilliantly 18 minutes later. When Barkley equalised – with just 38 seconds of injury-time left – all hell broke lose as Ianni, 32, shook a celebratory fist under Mourinho’s nose.
The United boss said: “I was upset about the celebration, but it’s about education.
“Maurizio asked me to accept his apology – which I did – and then the young fellow came and he also apologised.
“I told him, ‘I accept your apology. I also made mistakes, especially when I was your age, and I tried to improve’.”
But Mourinho was mystified when referee Mike Dean added on six minutes of injury time.
He added: “I am surprised because it is one of the things that always depends on the referee’s criteria.
“Lots of people talk about real time. I do. I think we should stop the clock because we have so much technology. Then it’s a fairer situation.”
