OAP robbed of Xmas cash is gifted €1k

- BY JIM HARDY

AN OAP robbed of €1,000 she saved to buy her greatgrandkids Christmas gifts has got it back after donations flooded in from strangers moved by her plight.

Betty Adams, 90, was sitting on a bench near her home when a woman distracted her and swiped the cash from her bag.

As news spread, residents in her flats started a fundraising page – which hit almost €1,200.

Betty said: “It was very nice of them as I don’t know them. But to do that is very kind.

“I wanted to buy the children sweets and toys.”

Hannah Hammond, 33, one of the organisers, said “I’m so glad Betty can now get her presents.”

Sussex Police said they are probing the theft in Kemp Town, Brighton.
