Niall: Fans the flame

- BY SCOTT MCDERMOTT

Aberdeen v Rangers 4.30pm

WHEN you’ve been sent bullets through the post, a bit of abuse from punters won’t faze you.

In fact, it inspires Niall Mcginn (above).

The Aberdeen winger knows he has never been popular with Rangers supporters, given his previous association with Celtic.

And in today’s Betfred Cup semi-final at Hampden, he’s expecting abuse from the stands – but that will only spur the 31-year-old on.

The Northern Ireland star believes some of the Gers fans who will slaughter him today will also revere him for his national side.

But Mcginn, who needed the Royal Mail to intercept bullets intended for him seven years ago while at Celtic – said: “Rangers fans always give me stick but that just spurs me on. I take it with a pinch of salt now.

“It’s strange because a lot of Rangers supporters also support Northern Ireland.

“And most Northern Ireland fans have been brilliant with me over the years.

“But there’s always one or two in the crowd who will give you grief. I have to use that as inspiration to bring success to this club.

“I’ve never had any major problems off the pitch with Rangers fans. Some are Northern Ireland fans as well so if I’m doing well for the national side, they can’t complain.”
